REMARKS BY AMBASSADOR OF INDIA SHRI ABHISHEK SINGH AFTER HIS MEETING WITH MR EDWIN ANTONIO ROJAS, GOVERNOR OF SUCRE STATE ON 20 NOVEMBER 2020

 

          I had a productive meeting with Governor of Sucre State His Excellency Mr. Edwin Antonio Rojas today.  I would like to thank him and his team for organizing this meeting.

2.       Sucre State of Venezuela has significant importance in its history.  The State is named after Grand Marshal ofAyacucho, Antonio Jose de Sucre, who is revered as one of the Venezuela’s national heroes.  Today Sucre State contributes to the Venezuelan economy in the field of fishery and food processing industry.  Sucre is also known for its natural resources and its tourism potential.

3.       This meeting comes at a time when the world is facing the unprecedented pandemic.   I briefed His Excellency Governor of my meetings in Caracas related to the joint fight against Coronavirus.  I conveyed that India has contributed 4 tonnes of medicines to the Government of Venezuela for use in treatment of COVID-19 and other diseases.  I also briefed him about the successful conduct of B2B/B2G meeting with India-Venezuela pharma industries recently.  I suggested to His Excellency to benefit from the collaboration forged in the B2B meeting.  We also discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of Ayurveda and Yoga.  In addition, we also discussed avenues for cooperation in food processing industries and agriculture.

4.       His Excellency Governor suggested that the export of fisheries products from Sucre may be explored.  In addition, the possibility of tourism was also discussed.

5.       We decided to continue regular discussions on various possibilities between India and the State of Sucre.  I wished the people of Sucre State our greetings for the Christmas season and expressed hope that we see the normalization of activities.
