General guidelines for Indian Passport Holders
- For online Passport Application Form: [https://passport.gov.in/nri/Online.do]. This form should be used in case of all the Passport related services mentioned in this webpage.

- Your Passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in your own custody or in the custody of a person duly authorized by you. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Indian Mission and the local police.
- Always keep a photocopy of your passport in a safe place and submit the same while requesting for duplicate passport. Without a copy of the passport, issue of duplicate passport may be delayed.
- Your passport can be impounded or revoked by the Government of India under the provisions of the Passports Act 1967 in which case you will have to surrender the passport to the nearest Indian Passport Authority.
- If you have acquired foreign citizenship, please surrender the Indian passport to the nearest Indian Mission and apply for renunciation of Indian citizenship. The Indian passport is returned to the applicant after cancellation. The cancelled Indian passport and renunciation slips should be kept in safe custody as these may be required at the time of applying for Overseas Indian citizenship/Person of Indian Origin cards /Indian visa, etc. for the first time.

Guidelines for filling up forms
- Online submitted passport application form preferably submitted with the passport.
- It is an offence under the Passports Act 1967 to give false information in the application. Misrepresentation/ suppression of facts, wilful damage of passport and making unauthorized changes in passports may result in denial of passport/ consular service. Incomplete/incorrect applications, applications with inadequate fees or the fees not paid in the prescribed manner will result in denial of service and return of passport at sender's cost.
- Please write-NO/NOT APPLICABLE, wherever necessary and no column should be left blank. Incomplete forms will be returned at the applicants' risk and cost.
- If the applicant is holding any other nationality/passport, it should be invariably mentioned in the designated column.
- All passport application forms for renewal should be accompanied by the Passport to be renewed.
- Photocopies of the first two pages and last two pages containing particulars of the Passport holder, names of both the parents and address and Visa page should be attached.
- In case, there is change in name, a copy of duly legalised certificate substantiating change of name (like Marriage Certificate) should also be submitted.
- The applicants should submit a copy of work permit/stay permit/ identity card showing legal status of the applicants in the country of residence.
- In cases, where the passport has already expired before one year, the applicant should submit an affidavit and may have to appear personally before the Consular Officer (For affidavit, click here) , if so required.
- In case, name of spouse is to be added to the Passport, please submit a photocopy of marriage certificate with a request for addition of name.

- A duly paid courier envelope may please be forwarded along with passport applications for return of passports.
- All the requests for passport services should be accompanied by bank draft/deposit slips in accordance with the information given in the Fee Schedule.
Fees must not be sent in cash by mail.
