Xiaomi, a Beijing-headquartered electronics company, designs, develops, and sells smartphones, mobile apps, and consumer electronics. In July 2014 the company entered India, which has since become the largest market after China for the company’s low-priced, feature-rich phones which are increasingly finding favor with young and cost-conscious Indians. While Xiaomi had forayed into the Indian market through the online route in partnership with e-Commerce giant Flipkart, Xiaomi has gradually expanded availability with Snap deal and Amazon early this year. It has also started selling smartphones at brick and mortar stores through partners like the Mobile Store, Airtel and the recently announced tie up with Redington. Xiaomi is currently being manufactured from a Foxconn facility located in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. While the existing facility will manufacture about 10,000 phones a day, Xiaomi has ambitious plans for India that could eventually make the country a key manufacturing base for the company.
