COMMEMORATION OF 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF MAHATMA GANDHI

The Embassy of India, Caracas organized an event in commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Square, UD-2, Caricuao, Caracas on 02ndOctober 2019. Venezuelan Vice-Minister for Asia, Middle East and Oceania, H.E. Mr.  Rubén Darío Molina was the Chief Guest.

2.       Cd’A and the Vice Minister offered floral tribute at Mahatma Gandhi’s bust installed at the square. Cd’A thanked everyone for participating in the celebration and urged them to spread Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of truth and non-violence to their near and dear ones so that they could improve the quality of their lives and make the world a better place. Vice Minister H.E. Mr. Molina praised how Mahatma Gandhi led India to Independence through peace and non-violence and said that his legacy should be followed in today’s world.

3.       Writer of the book ‘Gandhi - Independence & Peace’, Ms. Monica Saiz, President of Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela, Ms. Veronica de Guruceaga and Representatives of the Community of Caricuao also shared their thoughts on Mahatma Gandhi with the attendees. All the participants offered flowers to Mahatma Gandhi.

4.       Cd’A presented the gifts to the winner and the finalists of Mahatma Gandhi’s quiz that was held on social media of the Mission for a year commencing on 02ndOctober 2018. It was followed by singing of 'Vaishnav Jan TohTeneKahiye Je' by the Sanskrit students in Caracas and a lively performance titled ‘Musical Hug’, also based on the bhajan 'Vaishnav Jan TohTeneKahiye Je',by the children of an elementary school.

5.       Light Indian refreshments were served at the end. Around 180 people including Venezuelan Government Officers, Indian Diaspora and friends of India attended the event.
